The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans consists of seven commissioners. They are unsalaried and serve five-year staggered terms. The Governor of Louisiana appoints members from a list of three nominations submitted by 19 local civic, labor, education and maritime groups.

The Board reflects the Port’s three-parish jurisdiction, with two members from Jefferson Parish, four from Orleans Parish and one from St. Bernard Parish. Vice-Chairman Jack C. Jensen, Jr. and Secretary- Treasurer Joseph F. Toomy represent Jefferson Parish. Commissioner William H. Langenstein, III, Commissioner Walter J. Leger, Jr., Commissioner Darryl D. Berger and Commissioner James J. Carter, Jr. represent Orleans Parish. Chairman Charles H. Ponstein represents St. Bernard Parish.

In accordance with La R.S. 42:17.1 et seq., and in consideration of the safety and well-being of the Board’s members, staff, and communities directly impacted by the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, the Regular Monthly Board meetings scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022, will convene virtually using Zoom videoconferencing.

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans will convene at 1:30 p.m., followed immediately by the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Commission for the Port of New Orleans.

Agenda-related and general public comment will be accepted during the designated Public Comment period. To facilitate orderly conduct of the virtual meeting(s), individuals are encouraged to submit their request for Public Comment in advance by emailing Mandi Verderame (Mandi.Verderame@portnola.com). Please note the following regarding Public Comment at the Board’s public meetings:

  • Conduct disrupting or interfering with the orderly transaction of the Board's business will not be permitted.
