Port NOLA Launches New Virtual Reality Videos

IMG 2544

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) launched a set of virtual reality videos designed to provide a rare inside look at the port’s terminals and cargo handling capabilities for customers, visitors and the general public.

Three Port NOLA virtual reality videos offer a 360-degree camera view moving through the Port’s terminals along the Mississippi River as cargo is being handled. One five-minute video showcases the port’s overall cargo handling capabilities including intermodal, container-on-barge, refrigerated cargo, and breakbulk operations. A second video focuses on containerized cargo while a third highlights breakbulk capabilities.

Port NOLA’s competitive edge comes from the ability to deliver seamless, integrated logistics solutions between river, rail and road. These videos deliver the innovative experience of a virtual tour to Port users or potential customers who are distantly operating either outside of our region, or globally.

Because public access is restricted for homeland security reasons, these videos are also a valuable tool for sharing Port operations with the general public who are not able to see first-hand how the Port serves the state of Louisiana as a global gateway and economic engine.

In the COVID-19 era, virtual reality videos can also now be used as an alternative way to give Port tours to groups and visitors without setting foot on the terminal, particularly for students access as well as for potential customers and current customers unable to travel.

The videos are narrated by a familiar voice to many Louisiana residents. New Orleans tourism leader and the voice of the New Orleans Saints Mark Romig was recruited to record the voiceover.

The videos, produced by New Orleans-based firm Maverick VR, can be viewed with or without a VR headset and are accessible on the Port NOLA website and Youtube channel. Check out the full videos here.
